Progressive Martial Arts has been offering high quality instruction in the Catterick area since 1997. The club was founded by Sensei Arthur Coates and was originally run from small sports halls in catterick Village and Richmond. In 2004 Steven took over the reigns of the club and has now moved from those small begininings into a fully equipped martial arts training facility.

Progressive Martial Arts is a proud member of The British National Martial Arts Association. This outstanding association is one of the largest in the UK and is there to help us keep uptodate with all our qualifications and teaching methods.
We are also members of Black Belt International which is one of the lartgest associations in the world today.
As well as those listed above we are affiliated and members of Open Circle Fighting Method, Premier Jeet Kune Do and last but by no means least Defendo UK.
Instructors
Progressive Martial Arts Chief Instructor Steven Smith is one of the areas highest ranked instructors. He hold Dan grades in 3 separate arts and is one of the Uk's highest ranking instructors in Defendo. Steven is assisted in every class by a dedicated coaching team.
Emma wright is the senior instructor under Steven. She too holds Dan Grade/Instructor qualifications in various arts. Onto top of this she is one of the highest personal trainers in the area and is an expert in fitness.
The other assistants in the class are Kris Kane, Ian Wilkinson and Neil Coatsworth. In the junior classes we also have Patrick and Kimberly Coatsworth who have both been training at the club for many years.
